From a relaxed surface to a built experience
Inspired by the optical principles of a kaleidoscope, the installation explores the relationship between computational form-finding and physical fabrication. A Kangaroo-relaxed surface is discretised into a panel system that can be prepared and assembled through interlocking components.
The fabrication process develops from a 1:10 exploratory model to a 1:5 structural prototype and a full-scale installation. Lightweight hollow panels lined with reflective laser films create shifting reflections and visual depth as visitors look through the openings or move within the structure.
